How to Use the Middle Click Test

The middle button sits under the scroll wheel and is easy to wear out. This test counts middle clicks separately from left and right, and stops the browser's auto-scroll so you can click freely.

  1. Point at the box. Keep the cursor inside.
  2. Press the wheel down. Don't roll it, press it.
  3. Check the counter. It should go up by one each time.
  4. Try 20 presses. Missed presses mean a worn switch.

Middle Click Not Working?

  • In mouse software, check the middle button isn't remapped.
  • Clean around the wheel with compressed air.
  • On laptops, middle click is often a three-finger tap. Turn it on in touchpad settings.
  • The wheel switch can be replaced on many mice.
