How to Use the Guitar Tuner & Pitch Detector

This chromatic tuner listens through your microphone and finds the pitch of the note you play. It works for guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, cello, banjo, mandolin and your voice. The needle shows how many cents you are away from the nearest note. Within ±5 cents, the note turns green.

  1. Press Start tuner. Allow microphone access.
  2. Play one string. Pluck it and let it ring.
  3. Read the needle. Left is flat, right is sharp.
  4. Turn the peg. Stop when the note turns green.

Tips for Accurate Tuning

  • Tune up to the note. If you are sharp, go below and come back up.
  • Play one string at a time and mute the others.
  • Hold the phone or laptop near the sound hole.
  • Retune after a few minutes, because new strings stretch.

Alternate Tunings

Drop D (D2 A2 D3 G3 B3 E4), Open G (D2 G2 D3 G3 B3 D4) and DADGAD (D2 A2 D3 G3 A3 D4) all work, because the tuner is chromatic and shows any note.
