How to Use the Click Speed Test

This click speed test counts every click you make inside the box and divides it by the time. The timer starts on your first click, so there is no head start and no lag.

  1. Pick a time. Choose 1, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds. 5 seconds is the classic CPS test.
  2. Start clicking. Click inside the box. The first click starts the timer.
  3. Keep going. Click as fast as you can until the timer hits zero.
  4. Read your CPS. Your clicks per second and total clicks appear right away. Your best score is saved on this device.

What Is a Good CPS Score?

Here is a rough guide based on common community scores, not lab data:

CPSWhat it means
Under 6Relaxed clicking. Totally normal.
6 to 8Average. Most people land here.
8 to 11Fast. You are probably jitter clicking or just quick.
11 to 15Very fast. Jitter or butterfly territory.
15+Elite. Butterfly or drag clicking.

How to Click Faster

  • Try jitter clicking: tense your arm so your finger vibrates on the button.
  • Try butterfly clicking: alternate two fingers on the same button.
  • Try drag clicking: drag your finger across the button so friction makes it bounce.
  • Use a light mouse with crisp switches, and rest your wrist on the desk.

Does a High CPS Hurt My Mouse?

Fast clicking won't break a healthy mouse, but switches do wear over time. If a single click ever registers twice, run the double click test. Very fast techniques like butterfly clicking can look like chatter because the gaps are short, and that is normal.

Which Test Length Should You Pick?

Each timer tells you something different. Short tests reward raw finger speed, and long tests show how well you keep it up. If you only try one, use 5 seconds. It's the length most people compare on forums and in Minecraft PvP communities.

TimerWhat it showsGood for
1 sPure burst speedSeeing your absolute peak
5 sSpeed with a little staminaComparing with friends
10 sRhythm and controlPvP practice
30 s / 60 sEndurance and consistencySpotting fatigue and switch issues
100 sLong-term staminaSerious training

Try the same timer three times in a row and take the middle score. One lucky run doesn't mean much, but three similar runs show your real level.

Click Speed Ranks: Where Do You Stand?

Here's a rough guide based on the 5 second test. It isn't official, but it matches what most players see.

CPSRankWhat it means
Under 5TurtleRelaxed, everyday clicking
5 to 7AverageWhere most people land
7 to 9FastAbove average, good for casual PvP
9 to 12Very fastUsually means jitter clicking
12 to 15EliteButterfly or very strong jitter
15+InsaneButterfly or drag clicking territory

If you score above 20 with normal clicking, check your mouse with the double click test. A switch that bounces can add phantom clicks and make your score look better than it really is.

Clicking Techniques Explained

There are four main ways to click. Each has its own feel, speed ceiling and risk.

Regular Clicking

One finger, one click at a time. It's the most accurate and the easiest on your hand. Most people top out between 6 and 8 CPS.

Jitter Clicking

You tense your forearm so your hand vibrates, and the vibration drives your finger. It can reach 10 to 14 CPS but tires your arm quickly. Our jitter clicking guide covers how to do it safely, and the jitter click test lets you practise.

Butterfly Clicking

Two fingers alternate on one button. It's easy to learn and often reaches 15 to 20 CPS. Some servers ban it, so check the rules. Practise on the butterfly click test.

Drag Clicking

You drag a dry fingertip across the button so friction makes it bounce. It can produce 25+ CPS in short bursts, but only on mice with the right button texture. Try the drag click test.

Is Fast Clicking Good for Aim?

Not by itself. In shooters, clicking faster than a gun's fire rate does nothing, and spamming clicks usually hurts accuracy. Where CPS really matters is in games like Minecraft PvP, where hits are tied to clicks, and in clicker games.

If your goal is better aim, spend time on the aim trainer instead. If your goal is a bigger number here, focus on technique, a light mouse and short, relaxed practice sessions.

Why Your CPS Score Might Be Lower Than Expected

  • High debounce time. Some mice ignore clicks that come too close together. Lower the debounce in your mouse software if it has the option.
  • Wireless power saving. A sleepy wireless mouse can miss the first click. Wake it up by moving it first.
  • Trackpad tapping. Tap-to-click often has a small delay. Use a real mouse for the best score.
  • Browser busy. Close heavy tabs. The test is light, but a slow computer can still drop events.

Click Speed Test on Mobile

On phones and tablets, tap the test area instead of clicking. Touch scores are usually lower, because screens add a little delay.

What Is a CPS Test?

CPS means clicks per second. A CPS test counts how many times you click during a set time, then divides by the number of seconds. If you click 40 times in 5 seconds, your CPS is 8. It's a quick way to measure finger speed, compare with friends and track your progress over time.

How Accurate Is This CPS Test?

We use high-resolution timestamps from the browser for every click, and the timer starts on your first click, so you don't lose time reacting. Clicks outside the test area don't count. Results are shown with one decimal place. The only thing we can't control is your mouse: if it filters fast clicks with a long debounce time, some of your clicks won't reach the browser.

Tips Before You Start

Sit comfortably, rest your wrist, and do one practice run to warm up. Then go for your best score.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CPS?

CPS means clicks per second. It is the number of clicks divided by the seconds you clicked for.

What is the average CPS?

Most people score around 6 to 7 CPS with normal clicking.

Is the world record CPS real?

Records over 100 CPS exist for drag clicking, but those depend on the technique and mouse. For normal clicking, 14+ CPS is already exceptional.

Can I use the spacebar?

Yes, there is a separate spacebar counter for that.
