How to Use the Horizontal Scroll Test
Many mice have a tilting scroll wheel or a thumb wheel for scrolling sideways. This test counts left, right, up and down scroll events separately and shows the delta values. No horizontal wheel? Hold Shift and scroll, which most systems treat as sideways scrolling.
- Point at the box. Keep the cursor inside it.
- Tilt left and right. Or roll the thumb wheel.
- Watch the counters. Left and right should count each tilt.
- Check the log. It shows every event with its delta.
Horizontal Scroll Not Working?
- Check your mouse software. Tilt is often mapped to another action.
- Some apps ignore horizontal scroll. Test here first.
- On Logitech mice, set the thumb wheel to horizontal scroll in Options+.
Trackpads
Two-finger side swipes are horizontal scroll events too. Use the trackpad test for gestures.
