Controller Trigger Test
Pull each trigger slowly all the way. The bar should go smoothly from 0 to 1 and come back to 0.
How to Use the Controller Trigger Test
Triggers are analog. They report how far you press them, from 0.000 to 1.000. Worn or dirty triggers may not reach 1, may not return to 0, or may jump in steps. This test shows the live value, the lowest and highest values seen, and how many different steps the trigger has reported.
- Connect the controller. Press any button first.
- Pull slowly. All the way in, then all the way out.
- Check max and min. Max should reach about 1.000, rest should be 0.
- Check steps. More steps means a smoother trigger.
Common Trigger Problems
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Max below 0.9 | Worn sensor or stuck trigger stop |
| Does not return to 0 | Weak spring or dirt |
| Jumps in big steps | Dirty or worn sensor |
| Fires on its own | Faulty sensor, needs repair |
Trigger Stops and Adaptive Triggers
Some pro controllers have trigger stops that make triggers short and digital. That is expected. PS5 adaptive triggers only change resistance inside games, not in a browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my trigger only show 0 or 1?
Trigger stops are on, or the controller uses digital triggers.
Can I test PS5 adaptive triggers?
Browsers can't control adaptive triggers yet, but the values are tested.
Is it the same as the gamepad tester?
It is the gamepad tester focused on triggers.
Does it work on Switch Pro?
Yes, but ZL and ZR are digital, so they jump from 0 to 1.
