FPS Test
How smooth is your screen right now? Watch the live FPS, the frame time bars and the stutter count.
How to Use the FPS Test
This FPS test counts the frames your browser draws each second and shows every frame time as a bar. Tall bars are stutters: frames that took too long. It is a quick way to check whether a laptop is throttling, a browser extension is slowing things down, or your screen runs at its full refresh rate.
- Keep the tab in front. Background tabs are slowed down on purpose.
- Watch the FPS. It should match your refresh rate.
- Look at the bars. Flat and short is smooth.
- Try changes. Plug in the charger, close apps, and compare.
FPS vs Refresh Rate
Refresh rate is how often your monitor updates. FPS is how many new frames are made. In a browser, the two are usually locked together, so a 144 Hz screen should show about 144 FPS.
Why Am I Getting Stutters?
- Too many tabs or apps.
- Laptop on battery saver.
- Hardware acceleration turned off.
- Overheating. Check the fans and vents.
